Lightbulb Learning is the brain child (get it? 😊) of me, Sarah Williams. It is a recognition of that delightful lightbulb moment that takes place when the brain says AHA! and someone learns something new.

I’m on a mission to help the world create more lightbulb moments through online learning. I bring 20 years experience in the field of Learning and Development to online course creators to help them design and refine highly effective and engaging online courses.

I’ve always had a love for learning. When I was young I could be found teaching all the neighborhood kids dances so we could put on a show. Later, when I entered the workplace, I was often asked to ‘show people the ropes’ and found myself teaching people how to use new systems and new processes (ISO or Lean methodologies anyone?) But my real foray into Learning and Development industry was through a chance introduction.

At the time, I was working as an Accountant and Business Consultant and I was introduced to a training company who was looking for someone to run finance courses for their corporate clients. As I’d had so much experience training others in my roles I jumped at the chance and put together a course which was well received BUT …… it took me DAYS to prepare for it and, quite frankly, I didn’t know what I didn’t know.

You see, I fallen into a trap a lot of online course creators fall into. I’d created my training based on the only frame of reference I had available to me at the time: what I had seen and experienced. I designed the course to be like what I’d seen in school, in university and in other courses I had attended – Not based on best practice.

And I’d done all of my learners a HUGE dis-service.

This realization sent me on my own personal quest: To discover what created transformation. Sure, I wanted to know how to best facilitate knowledge transfer but what I really wanted to understand was how to affect change and create permanent transformation. I didn’t want people to just be ‘smarter’ after a course with me. I wanted them to be permanently transformed.

Now, I’d like to say that I found the Holy Grail and the Quest is over. But the truth is this is a lifetime quest. It’s why I call myself a Lifelong Learner. We are always discovering new ways to help people absorb and apply information.

So, if you’re like me and want to transform peoples lives through learning and development, I invite you to join me on my quest or simply benefit from what I’ve learnt so far. Make sure you’re on the mailing list and following me on social media and I’ll be sure to keep you updated on the latest and greatest in learning design.

Remember; Design makes all the difference.
